The California Casual Home
Bearing witness to their move from the States to the quaint city of Belgaum, this home is a true harbinger of new beginnings. The house combines California’s casual charm with modern, functional design, embracing a relaxed, effortless aesthetic. A pared-down palette experiments with whites, blues, ochre, and olive to create spaces that amalgamate comfort, warmth, and character.

About the Project
The clients requested a contemporary, understated space with neutral tones that would offer sleek simplicity and practical functionality suitable for a young family returning from years spent overseas.
An open living cum dining space forms the home’s nucleus, its palette of hues and materiality striking a mindful balance between stated colours and subtle pattern play. The hearty kitchen becomes the family’s epicentre when they dine and host, its deep indigo island commanding attention at its centre.
A medley of soft-toned hues traversing greys and blues sets the tone in the intimate spaces — an extension of the neutrality that flows uninterruptedly through the home. The residence’s reprised layout was thoughtfully designed to create distinct kitchen, living, and dining zones while fostering an openness that wasn’t a feature in the former blueprint.
